Horse Carriage Demo/Protest Against Heinous Abuse of Horses in New York City 1-16-10 pt3

On Saturday, January 16th, 2010, New York City animal rights activists kicked off the beginning of a campaign against the cruel abuse of horses in New York City’s carriage horse industries. Ironically, this date is the start of the 3-day weekend that includes Martin Luther King day – a day celebrating equal rights and reminding us all of the end of slavery. Well, slavery of humans in the US may be a thing of the past but the enslavement and merciless treatment of horses is alive and well in New York City. Shamrock Stables, West Side Livery, Ian McKeever, Frank and the rest of the dirty animal abusers are now on the chopping block, as this group of activists is determined to put their industry out of business. Horses are kept in nose-to-tailpipe conditions for 9 hours a day, up to 7 days a week, hauling brutally heavy loads including carriage and passengers around the streets of New York City. They inhale carbon monoxide for most of their “work” day, and routinely find their water sources empty. Horses are worked in the blistering sun and the freezing cold. In snow, and ice, they haul happy and blissfully ignorant tourists on stupid joyrides. Horses are easily spooked by loud noises and sudden movements, and have often spooked and bolted, causing automobile accidents, injury to humans, and injury – often fatal to the horses. Can you think of a city more loud, or with more sudden movements than New York City? Horses need to fully lay down in order to sleep properly – but New

Can you think of a city more loud, or with more sudden movements than New York City? Horses need to fully lay down in order to sleep properly – but New York City horses are warehoused in multi-story buildings without adequate ventilation (ammonia buildup from urine in these places causes health problems and provides an agonizing breathing experience), any fire safety measures, and often times stalls too small to lay down properly, or at all. No, the horses do not live in Central Park. They live in a
